Role: Senior Manager, Operations ​
Location: Bishops Stortford
Band 8

Position Summary

The Sr Manager, Operations for the FBS UK site operations is responsible for managing the commercial repository in Bishops Stortford, UK. This position manages the receipt, inventory, storage, withdrawal and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients in a GMP regulated environment. These materials are stored at temperatures ranging from room temperature to below freezing with potentially hazardous properties. This position holds fiscal responsibility for on-going operations while delivering services within the defined metrics and pricing of contracts and is responsible for maintaining appropriate capacity and efficient operating staffing levels, whilst maintain quality, safety, facility, Laboratory and Client Services and equipment necessary to meet client and company needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that all teams follow aspects of each client contract is followed, and works to maintain proper operations of all aspects of the Bishops Stortford Facility’s.
  • Responsible for meeting operational fiscal requirements for all business activities
  • Oversee operations with a focus on Quality and Facilities compliance using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and input from QA and Facilities departments as a guide
  • Develop CAPEX (capital expense) requirements and annual operating budget (AOP) for areas of focus. Review all purchases and invoices generated from your team
  • Interact with clients as necessary to assist in sales and customer service requirements including tours of the facility and participation in site audits
  • Responsible for, data entry, inventory for the repository
  • Ensures client/sponsor documentation is complete, accurate and issued in a timely fashion
  • Accountable for packaging and shipping and all aspects of the logistics function domestic and global to support these operations
  • Accountable for government and regulatory compliance, accident reporting, and ensuring compliance to cGMP standards and HTA
  • Ensures all employees follow safety guidelines and are properly trained
  • Works closely with the Quality Manager to develop and implement training programs for operations (all groups)
  • Followup to direct client contact via email or facetoface
  • Daytoday coordination of multiple repository projects in process
  • Taking a proactive response to other duties would be expected and may also be assigned to meet business needs
  • Travel to Client and in support of operations as required

  • Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Expert ability to work with methods to handle, process, and store specimens
  • Knowledge, general laboratory and quality assurance/control
  • Ability to multi-task in multi-disciplines on a day to day basis including Operations, Project, QA, and Facilities Management skills
  • Maintains a level of personnel with the ability to respond to on-call in support of site 24/7/365 for events such as afterhour’s temperature, alarms, or fire alarms or weather related events

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • University degree preferred (BSc/MSc/FIBMS)
  • Management of repository operations; shipping, receiving, cold temperature storage
  • Experienced working in an MHRA and HTA regulated environment
  • Good understanding of ISO 9000 and cGxP quality standards
