DISTRIBUTION SHIFT LEADER

Working within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Speciality Diagnostic Group, within the Microbiology Division (MBD), our customers worldwide trust our microbiology solutions for the diagnosis of infectious disease and detection of bacterial contamination.

Working as part of a team, The Distribution Shift Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of the warehouse during a shift to deliver organisational and deliver results in line with the site strategy and specific objectives for the department/team including:

  • Health & Safety
  • Quality
  • Output and Operational Efficiency
  • Schedule adherence
  • Engagement
  • Attendance
  • Training and Development

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the training and qualification of your shift team to acquire all skills necessary to operate, maintain, changeover and troubleshoot in a safe and quality manner
  • Role-model the Thermo Fisher 4I Values and Operations Competencies and use as a day-to-day guide in decision making on your shift team and in your operating area
  • Utilise all available resources to achieve your shift team goals
  • Take accountability for the results of your shift team, and responsibility for the decisions made on the shift. Hence, you must ensure that you and the Warehouse Operatives are clear on roles and responsibilities, operating principles, and that standard operating processes are followed and maintained at all times
  • Set daily direction for your shift team. This will include, but is not limited to:
    • Reviewing previous shift results to establish gaps and priorities
    • Develop and execute plans to execute maintenance, close-out gaps/problems, and execute systems to deliver shift goals
    • Lead troubleshooting of open barriers to the root-cause.
    • Support your team in resolution of barriers
    • Review and learn from daily activities.
  • Ensure effective communication and relay teamwork within and between shifts, and that the Distribution Manager is constantly informed of events, situations or issues within the department as appropriate
  • Most importantly, you must motivate the individuals within your team, and develop them into a strong, autonomous and engaged team:
    • Create an environment that encourages individual and team growth
    • Set clear, comprehensive expectations, set an example, provide meaningful, timely feedback about performance, train and coach to continuously improve individual performance and business results
    • Learn by doing and teach by example, and promote ‘Review and Learn’ approach at individual and shift team levels
  • Ensuring that the Distribution area is kept clean and tidy
  • Ensuring that all staff are treated fairly without prejudice or bias
  • Champion continuous improvement and change management
  • Deputise for the Distribution Manager or Team Leader as required
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Distribution Manager

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Experienced leader of people within a production/operations environment
  • Drive for Results - ability and willingness to learn technical and leadership skills and the ability to train/coach others
  • Decision Quality - attention to detail and a systematic approach
  • Role Model Leader – hands on approach and flexible attitude to daily work/responsibilities, ability to lead by example
  • Problem Solving -effective in technical and organisational troubleshooting to root cause
  • Computer literate
  • GCSE Maths & English at grade C or above
  • 5 year checkable work record
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Physically fit in order to be able to carry out all tasks within the warehouse including (but not limited to) picking and packing, goods dispatch, stock management, and able to work in varying temperatures from -20°C up to 30°C. Please note this job will spend the majority of their time (90%+) on their feet. This role also requires some heavy lifting (weights of approximately 30kgs)

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
  • Excellent working knowledge of SAP
  • PPI / Continuous Improvement experience
