Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and prototype solutions to technical challenges in scientific instrumentation within defined budgets and timelines
  • Collaborate with materials science customers and stakeholders globally to define project ideas and scopes
  • Estimate project costs including labor and discretionary expense items
  • Report results out to multiple levels of business leadership and provide recommendations for further action
  • Analyze, evaluate and report on new and/or competitive technologies
  • Generate and prepare written disclosures on priorietary intellectual property regularly
  • Ability to travel up to 25% including international
  • Other duties only as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry with up to 5 years work experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions

Required

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct short-term high-tech research projects independently or as a member of a team focused around the spectroscopy of materials
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently think creatively to conceive, scope and propose new projects across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain regular stakeholder contact
  • Demonstrated ability to use scientific principles and methods to understand, anticipate, test, and resolve technical challenges that cross engineering and scientific disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with customers to understand market needs
  • Windows, MS Office proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Strong collaboration and networking skills

Desired

  • Experience in molecular spectroscopy techniques such as Infrared or Raman
  • Experience in SEM and EDS
