The Portfolio Manager – Production Chemical is responsible for developing and managing the Life Sciences product and supplier portfolio within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Doe & Ingalls specialty brand. This individual develops and executes a portfolio strategy in alignment with the corporate and business unit’s commercial strategy. The Portfolio Manager works collaboratively with suppliers and cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure commercial and operational goals are met for both parties.

Responsibilities:
  • Proactively gather industry, competitor, supplier and product intelligence related to the Life Sciences production market.
  • Identify portfolio gaps; develop new supplier relationships that address our supplier and product gaps. Manage the supplier development pipeline to ensure the process is progressing.
  • Gain long term distribution rights to suppliers’ portfolios.
  • Negotiate distribution, quality, and confidentiality contracts and secure the most advantageous position for the company regarding pricing and commercial support while also allowing Doe & Ingalls to meet customers’ supply and quality commitments.
  • Ability to collaborate and align with Thermo Fisher’s total production strategy as pertains to related business units within Thermo Fisher that support production.
  • Develop strategic initiatives centered around our service portfolio platform and the value that creates for our total production business.
  • Develop and execute a supplier management business plan for our key suppliers including all commercial and operational aspects. This position plays the lead role in the supplier relationship.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate supplier and product and application training as needed. Support the sales process through the development of sales literature and tools. Incorporate supplier and product related communication plans in conjunction and alignment with the Communications plan.
  • Travel to suppliers’ sites, industry events and customers as needed to gather intelligence, build supplier relationships and support the growth of the portfolio.
  • Provide support during RFP process by leading communication with current and target suppliers.
  • Provide guidance and supplier support to Sales Coordinators regarding product sourcing requests.
  • Up to 50% travel is expected
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Prior commercial experience including Sales, Sales Management or related Marketing roles
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a Physical Life Science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochem or Biotech).
  • 5+ years’ experience in portfolio management
  • Previous experience with product/portfolio management
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer orientation and problem-solving, can-do attitude
  • Strong multi-tasking experience and flexibility to address immediate priorities and manage deadlines with long-term projects and strategic initiatives
Preferred Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree in business or a physical science is preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen
  • 10+ years’ experience in portfolio management
  • Expert in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of performance chemistry applications is a plus
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM or other CRM reporting
