The Director, Operations - Production, reporting to the VP/GM of Safety & Production, will lead the global development & commercialization of enhanced services to support the biopharma production operations to service Fisher Scientific customers. This individual will develop and execute a global cGMP production process, technology strategy & roadmap, define the optimal organization structure, recruit, hire, manage and develop a team of 15-20 to support the program. Additionally, this individual will lead business functional teams, work with marketing to develop an overall value-proposition for the program and take to market with the support of the Fisher Scientific commercial team including customer interaction, as needed. Lastly, there will be an opportunity to interface with company leadership to obtain the required business approval and buy-in for the execution of the program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Scale the Production Operations Program in US, CA & Europe by Leveraging Process Improvement methodologies to Execute Process Improvement & Technology Roadmap enhancements, Manage the Migration of existing and new Customers into the Program to support growth targets, Execute the Production Marketing Strategy and Launch Campaign to communicate program internally and externally.
  • Enhance Production Customer Experience by developing and launching the Production Program to the Commercial Team, Leverage Broader Thermo Fisher Capability & Measure & improve customer satisfaction metrics through surveys and customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Make Thermo Fisher Scientific an Employer of Choice by designing an organizational structure, hiring, managing and developing a high performing team, Develop & Execute Employee Survey Action Plan, Create & execute development plans for a team of 15-20.
  • Drive Profitability improvement with Increased Productivity & Efficiencies, Establish & track KPIs via a monthly program dashboard, Increase team Productivity according to annual improvement goals & Optimize Inventory & Distribution Operations by tightly managing customer reserved inventory.
  • Work closely with Quality Management to drive increased supplier engagement & improved quality in support of GMP Production customer requirements, execute supplier on-boarding including supplier quality agreements and capabilities documentation, and standardize and publish SOPs & work instructions to our quality management system.
  • Work closely with Portfolio Management to define Production Portfolio and identify gaps
  • Lead key business processes including Monthly/Quarterly Business Reviews, Strategic Plans, Human Resourcing planning & Annual budgeting.
  • Manage customer facing metrics and business reviews related to the production program.
  • Manage overall performance using KPIs and report outs to stakeholders on overall program progress.
  • Drive strategic annual initiatives to continue to enhance program and drive efficiencies and profitability.
  • Work closely and oversee the related activities of the sales organization, customer service, supply chain and regulatory to ensure sustainable operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of progressive business experience: operations, supply chain, sales, marketing, product management, quality, customer service.
  • 4+ years managing teams of 10 of more.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in appropriate specialty (preference for business, marketing, chemistry, biochemistry, or engineering).
  • Strong business acumen with a thorough understanding of global markets, financial data and reporting methodologies, various performance metrics, ROI analysis and business case development.
  • Ability to develop & implement strategies and sound recommendations based on both quantitative and qualitative inputs with intuitive understanding of financial drivers.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with excellent written and oral communication skills with effective strategies for interacting with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Office, email, PowerPoint and spreadsheet analysis).
  • Strong understanding and fluency in technology and chemistry and have the ability to respond to technical questions, common inquiries and complaints and the ability to effectively present information to engineers, managers and purchasing agents/ managers.
  • Knowledgeable in continuous improvement methodology and related analytical tools, e.g. Six Sigma, Lean, run charts, flow charting, Pareto charts, pivot tables etc.
  • Excellent project management skills including the ability to formulate and drive detailed plans and key performance indicators to report on the health of each project.
  • An understanding of supply chain management and new technical products and services.
  • Ability to effectively interact with other disciplines within the Company such as marketing, customer service, information technology and accounting.
  • Strong critical thinking and developing business strategies.
  • Proven experience in talent development and building strong organizational relationships.
  • Experience creating and developing best practices within an organization.
  • Experience with driving for results and sales efficiencies.
  • Willingness and availability to travel overnight domestically & internationally, up to 25%-30% of the time to visit customers, distribution centers & supplier facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA or Master's Degree in Business Management, Engineering.
  • Understanding of industry/global quality system standards and regulations; ISO 13485, FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP, cGxP).
  • Experience with the following tools: Cognos, SharePoint, MS Office, Fisher Scientific Mainframe & IBS.
  • Experience with global expansion.
