Title: Chemical Process Engineer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description Summary

The Chemical Process Engineer will manage and provide leadership for capital and process improvement projects in support of manufacturing operations, primarily in the resin qualification and chemical-based consumables production process areas. This role will seek and promote best practices and continuous improvement efforts across the organization, employing lean principles and six sigma techniques. The incumbent will advise and support existing chemical-based consumables operations leveraging technical knowledge and industry experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills through the use of continuous improvement techniques (Lean, TPM, and Kaizen).
  • Show thorough understanding of the interactions between machines, materials, methods, environment, and manpower to provide robust operating systems.
  • Evaluate and improve resin qualification and consumables production processes.
  • Ensure processes are documented as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions.
  • Conduct capacity studies, enhance system reliability, and identify/implement productivity improvements including new technologies.
  • Implement actions to remove variation and improve product quality.
  • Interact with Quality function to establish acceptance criteria for media types.
  • Validate processes utilizing IQ / OQ / PQ methodology.
  • Recommend, evaluate and qualify new materials and work with R&D to identify materials for new product development projects.
  • Make recommendations for tooling modifications or improvements.
  • Identify and execute initiatives to improve cost, productivity and quality, and lead capital and process improvement projects in the resin qualification and consumables production areas.
  • Serve as a technical leader in core manufacturing processes offering mentoring, training, and consulting services to production personnel.
  • Actively participate in definition of quality requirements, justification of acceptance limits and sampling plans to assure compliance with requirements.
  • Perform product and process evaluations to identify areas for improvement. Recommend solutions to identified problems. Implement approved changes using sound quality engineering principles and fully document requirements on a timely basis.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Operations to identify and resolve production and quality system deficiencies

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred and / or 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years and an advanced degree
  • 6+ years of practical work experience implementing processes and process improvements in chemical related operations
  • Experience utilizing statistical techniques strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading small to large and complex projects through the evaluation of information and responding accordingly using project management tools such as Gantt charts, etc.
  • Experience in new product development and/or manufacturing process development for new product rollouts is preferred.
  • Ability to investigate product quality problems, determine root cause, gather and analyze data and implement corrective action to reduce or eliminate cause.
  • Methodology and process validation experience with IQ / OQ / PQ and DOE
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a wide range of duties.
  • Ability to respond to the varied and changing demands of a manufacturing environment.
