Our Laboratory Chemicals business has exceptional growth potential. Laboratory Chemicals was built from several acquisitions and provides a full range of analytical reagents and discovery chemicals to Thermo Fisher’s core research markets worldwide. Laboratory Chemicals has been identified as a strategic growth area for the company with expansion opportunities in the US, Europe and developing markets, particularly Asia. Laboratory Chemicals has 14 operational facilities in the US, Europe, and Asia, and sells a significant portion of its products through Thermo Fisher customers channels group in major Western markets.
The Manager Process Engineering is a critical role in Laboratory Chemicals. With a focus on continuous improvement, this is a great opportunity to make an impact in a high profile segment of our growing business.
•Lead a group or engineering and development employees to improve operational production process controls. Ensure manufacturing reliability and quality for existing chemical processing portfolio and assets.
•Develop a fundamental understanding of how the process elements affect product performance. Perform process characterization work, identify critical quality attributes (CQA) and associated critical process parameters (CPP). Implement solutions to better control process performance to ensure robust, reproducible and efficient manufacturing processes.
•Ensure appropriate production equipment is utilized during manufacturing to yield the most consistent high performing product with improved manufacturing right first time performance.
•Revise/create associated production documentation to improve consistency in execution and GDP (manufacturing and packaging batch records, SOPs, QC specifications, etc…). Assist in training production staff on updates processes, techniques and documents.
•Liaise with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Product Development as technical link to drive process improvements
•Lead quality investigations, as assigned, from customer complaints or defects.
•Performs all job duties in a safe manner and obeys all safety policies and procedures.
•Performs all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics and the ThermoFisher 4-I Values (Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement)
•Reports to the site head of operations as a strategic position aimed at securing the future of existing core chemical processing business portfolio
Desired Skills and Experience:
•Minimum + 8 years’ experience in the Chemical/Pharmaceutical industry with minimum of 2 years previous people leadership. Experience in process design, operations/engineering role, technical transfer activities
•BS degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related field. Previous manufacturing, engineering, product development experience in regulated industry highly desirable.
•Six Sigma Black Belt or demonstrated experience using Six Sigma methodology to improve quality and product performance (experience leading design of experiments, statistical analysis, gauge R&R studies, process capability analysis, etc…)
•Possess a continuous process improvement mindset with the ability to effectively lead and manage change. Demonstrated “can-do” approach and dedication to solve equipment and process issues to keep the machines and production lines in full service.
•Strong project management / program leadership skills with strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Strong leadership and decision-making ability.
•Experience in production of solvents or handling of flammable chemicals a plus
•Expert knowledge of cGXP requirements.
•Quality focused on voice of the customer
•Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft Office products.
•Ability to travel as required, <5% of the time.
