Position Summary and Objectives
The Director, Supply Chain Management is responsible for directing the management and monitoring of inventory levels ensuring optimal use of Thermo Fishers inventory investment while maximizing Customer Line Item Fill Rate. The Director, Supply Chain Management is responsible for ensuring consistent quality and delivery that meets or exceeds customer expectations while attaining the lowest average cost and optimal inventory levels.

The Director, Supply Chain Management is responsible for directing the management and monitoring of inventory levels ensuring optimal use of Thermo Fishers inventory investment while maximizing Customer Line Item Fill Rate. The Director, Supply Chain Management is responsible for ensuring consistent quality and delivery that meets or exceeds customer expectations while attaining the lowest average cost and optimal inventory levels.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for forecasting & inventory planning with oversight of planning parameters that drive annual replenishments across numerous distribution centers.
- Responsible for delivering a realistic and achievable production plan with associated plan attainment and schedule adherence metrics.
- In support of supply chain business needs, manage development and implementation of decision support systems.
- Oversee ongoing support of existing inventory management programs and processes.
- Provide Management tools, services and general IT guidance to procurement team.
- Identify and drive implementation of system enhancements and on-going upgrades.
- Motivate and inspire the planning organization to provide continuous improvements and optimization of inventory investment while delivering customer service “fill rates” that meet or exceed established targets.
- Define decision support/action based tools to proactively identify and act upon supply chain issues such as poor service levels, shipments from secondary DC’s and stock-outs.
- Manage relationship with Sales and provide processes for affecting the inventory plan based upon changes in the marketplace.
- Direct the development and implementation of Supply Chain Management tools for measuring, monitoring and proactively addressing planning/procurement issues.
- Instill a sense of urgency and ownership with regard to service level and inventory investment goals.
- Coach and development employees to full potential, aggressively focusing on change management.
- Plan, organize and set priorities for the operation of the department; assess departmental needs, evaluate others’ performance, prepare a variety of reports and interpret data accurately.
- In partnership with IT, select and implement “best practice” state of the art technology platforms.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field is required.
- 10+ years of inventory and/or demand planning experience, including 7+ years in a leadership role in a high complexity distribution environment.
- Experience in the management of global supply chains required to include forecasting and scheduling (sales, inventory, and operations planning)
- Expertise in Purchasing, Inventory Planning, Demand Planning/Forecasting and Replenishment Planning.
- Strong leader with the ability to influence and manage a large geographically diverse organization
- Ability to successfully create clear actionable objectives and facilitate career planning for team members.
- Deep understanding of interdependencies between forecasting, capacity, inventory and service
- Strong business acumen and problem solving capability at the strategic level.
- Strong PPI, Lean and or Six Sigma working experience with demonstrated achievement of continuous improvement through utilization of Lean tools
