Job Description

Position Summary

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for the sourcing, quoting, negotiating, purchasing and monitoring delivery of materials in support of new product development and introduction and other R&D activities. Working with Division Sourcing, will guide supplier selection in support of strategic direction of the supply chain organization and based on a developed understanding of the capabilities for the current San Jose supply base.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as the liaison between Engineering and Purchasing teams, enhancing communication on day to day transactions including engineering changes, deviations and supplier relationship management.
  • Support R&D NPI project teams through milestones and ensure stage gate assignments are completed; expedite and follow-up on critical path part shortages
  • Process requisitions and place purchase orders for R&D material and track delivery of goods and services to meet project delivery dates.
  • Perform competitive supplier selections and reviews and conduct a total cost of ownership assessment to evaluate bids.
  • Enable strategic alignment between the R&D and Operations/Supply Chain goals, initiatives and requirements.
  • Use of root cause/counter measure to implement long term solutions to identified problems.
  • Support the strategic goals and objectives of the wider global sourcing organization

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in Procurement within a manufacturing environment with a strong NPI background and experience in cost model analysis and strategic supplier selections
  • Powerful negotiation skills alongside the ability to understand how to strike the balance of cost in a low volume/high mix environment.
  • Solid background in lean manufacturing tools and techniques
  • Independent self-starter who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience using an ERP system for purchasing activity, preferably SAP
  • Strong capabilities with MS Office, particularly advanced functions within Excel
