Job Description

Position Summary: Supports the manufacturing process by performing functions necessary to insulate a variety of products by setting up fixtures and injecting liquid foam that chemically reacts to become a solid insulation in a safe and efficient manner to provide high quality parts for work cells and allow our team to meet scheduled demands.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all personal and environmental safety guidelines.
  • Climbs on foam fixture/jig, secures work piece, and injects foam, while maintaining awareness of fall hazards.
  • Confirms that pre-determined heat settings on foam fixtures are correct at various points throughout process.
  • Focuses on production quality and efficient use of equipment, time, and materials.
  • Maintains foam gun, foam fixture, etc., using various hand tools to insure hydraulic fluid, pressure gauges, etc. are accurate and production ready.
  • Maintains understanding and knowledge related to the foaming process, affects on quality and performance, such as expansion of foam, etc.
  • Manually maneuver materials, adjusts materials in foam fixture, etc., requiring lifting and shifting of heavy materials and use of hand tools.
  • Places units in foam fixture, inserts foam, and removes from foam fixture using hoist, tools, power tools, etc.
  • Reads and interprets production board, procedure manuals, MSDS, JSA, etc.
  • Troubleshoots problems with equipment, air pressure, etc., and maintains routine maintenance procedures when needed, relying on maintenance when electrical or significant mechanical problems arise.
  • Troubleshoots work related problems by applying knowledge and experience to identify cause and take necessary steps to correct situation and contact supervisor when needed.
  • Uses measuring tools, tape measure, straight edge, etc., to insure each piece meets product quality after foaming process is complete.
  • Works in teams to accomplish overall plant goals regarding safety, efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Determines foam shot times by identifying materials and entering/loading key data values for foaming process.
  • Documents production issues on Production Board and communicates with others in department to explain problems.
  • Performs test shot of foam to verify output, weight and expansion properties.
  • Prioritizes job duties and pace of work in order to meet production goals.
  • Safely handles cleaning substances that are harmful if breathed and utilizes PPE as needed.
  • Cleans foam lines, guns, etc. to maintain optimal operation and slow attrition on equipment.
  • Completes daily check lists and completes proper forms/sheets related to cranes, guns, etc.
  • Enters/tracks production data on forms and into computer system at various points in the foam production process.
  • Fastens lift chain around components and operates controls of hoists, lifts, etc., to navigate and move production pieces as needed.
  • Operates a chain hoist to maneuver work piece into foam fixture in a manner that prevents personal or product damage.
  • Operates hand held controls to enter job data, operate foam gun, and position/move crane.
  • Places unit in foam fixture and insures that appropriate materials and fit are present.
  • Views Production Board to determine production goals and other key information related to department.
  • Completes monthly and quarterly maintenance check list, fills oil reservoirs, etc.
  • Inspects product to verify how custom equipment foaming will be accomplished by adjusting foam fixture.
  • Operates hydraulic jack truck to bring materials to/from foam fixture.
  • Utilizes SAP shared plant-wide to accomplish and track production goals.
  • Works throughout production area to accomplish goals by demonstrating ability and willingness to work with others when needed.
  • Moves finished pieces to storage area using electric crane or caster based carts, etc.
  • Encounters exposure to foam debris requiring PPE (face shield) as documented.
  • Maintains working inventory of parts/supplies by placing containers on pick-up shelf or completing KANBAN card.
  • Participates on Continuous Quality Improvement and supports PPI projects.
  • Performs other duties when asked to do so and approved by Supervisor, including work in other areas of production.
  • Trains others on job duties, quality goals and tracking, company guidelines, etc., and serves as a positive role model in the work place.
  • Cleans and finishes assembly products using approved cleaners/chemicals and tools according to PSS book and refers to MSDS to insure safe handling and ensures proper PPE equipment is utilized.
  • Participates in teams and utilizes Excel spreadsheets, charts, graphs, data analysis.
  • Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by joining PPI teams and following other company guidelines when needed.
  • Perform all job duties in a safe manner and obey all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics and the 4-I Values
  • Perform all job duties within ISO standards, regulatory or statutory requirements
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement and support all PPI, Keys and Lean projects
  • Perform other duties and cross training as assigned

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or meeting WorkKeys entry assessment levels for position and 1 year equivalent experience.
  • Experience Requirements: One to three years experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial setting.
  • Previous experience with injection liquid foam and fixtures is preferred.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to maneuver materials, tools, foam gun, etc., by hand in a repetitive manner to efficiently accomplish job goals in a safe, high quality manner.
    • Ability to stand, bend, stretch, reach, walk, climb, and stoop repetitively to accomplish foam production and other company-wide production goals in a cold/hot work environment while periodically being exposed to noise, fumes, dust and dirt and overhead equipment.
    • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to lift and maneuver parts weighing up to 50-60 lbs, requesting assistance from others when needed.
  • Other Skills: Ability to work in team environment and communicate well with others.
  • Computer Experience: Ability to maintain basic knowledge of SAP and Windows Operating System.
