Job Description

  • Ensure EHS compliance with applicable Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Labour, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and other government agencies, as required
  • Review the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) claims to make recommendations to minimize time of work and maximize the safe return to work program in conjunction with HR.
  • Develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Provide safety training to all managers/supervisors, employees, and Joint Health and Safety Committee, regarding their duties responsibilities; health safety and the law, incident investigations, near misses, hazard identification, workplace inspection and promotion of safety awareness.
  • Review safety statistics, conduct trend analysis and make recommendations for continual improvements
  • Conduct as required workplace inspections, facility audits and provide a corrective/prevention action plan complete with responsibilities and timelines.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with Federal, Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
  • Conduct job hazard analysis and ergonomic assessments
  • Report all incidents, near miss, and hazard id’s into the incident management database and determine corrective actions.
  • Manage contractors that perform facilities related task at the site.
  • Manage work request and preventative/predictive maintenance system and activities.
  • Seek productivity opportunities within the EHS and Facilities operations.
  • Manage all vendor Purchase Orders and Invoices to ensure timely payment.
  • Manage EHS & Facilities Budget
  • Maintain ISO 9001 recordkeeping requirements for Facilities & EHS operations.
  • Ensure that any facility issues are corrected in a timely manner by liaising with the appropriate contractor or vendor.

End to end facilities ownership

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in safety, environmental management, and/or sustainability engineering discipline. Must have thorough knowledge of Canadian EHS regulations.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety, related discipline and technical/practical knowledge of EHS regulations, codes, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, organize and/or conduct training.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required. Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology, research and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.
