Position Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Life Sciences Mass Spectrometry group is looking for an enthusiastic and well qualified Senior Software Engineer for developing instrument control software for a large array of chromatography instruments and mass spectrometers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop software for instrument control system of mass spectrometry instruments using a combination of C, C++, C#, Lua, Python. The control system includes controlling various devices, and peripherals to run scans and modify the control parameters based on the data set obtained.
  • Develop procedures for calibration and tuning of various control elements in the instrument, including mathematical and statistical modeling.
  • Bring-up code/systems in lab and test software builds. Work closely with research scientists to implement and contribute to patentable ideas.
  • Advances the group’s capability by in-depth research, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Work with field support in troubleshooting and reproducing customer issues, when required.
  • Work with in-house and third-party hardware developers to control instruments at various levels.

Minimum Requirements or Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with control software of analytical instruments
  • Proficient in C++ and C# with previous experience working with .Net, WCF, Windows Form, MFC, COM, ATL technologies
  • Proficient with Microsoft’s Windows developments tools
  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field
  • Efficient written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong experience developing medical devices instrument control software
  • Experience with Agile software development processes
  • Experience with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Virtual Instrument Specifications
