The Product Marketing Engineer works with the Product Marketing Manager and Applications Development team to deliver the business plans, marketing strategy and product roadmaps for their portfolio. The PME will also work with the Business Development team to deliver the tactical sales support and collateral required to meet the product forecasts. The PME will be required to meet with customers and maintain a good understanding of key customer technical requirements and provide input into future product requirements and roadmaps.

This position identifies, evaluates, and recommends marketing opportunities consistent with BU objectives. Responsibilities and deliverables that the PME will be responsible for will include:

  • Working closely with account managers, engaging in customer visits to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of solutions, assisting the sales force in the demonstration or promotion of Thermo Fisher Scientific products and roadmaps.
  • Providing feedback to engineering teams and others within the organization from existing customers and prospects to assist in the definition of new applications and configurations or enhancements that target specific markets or market segments.
  • Working collaboratively with engineering and applications development to turn special customer requirements into saleable products or features with a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Developing marketing collateral which includes: sales support materials, applications notes, product data sheets, competitive matrices, and technical presentations.
  • Participating in outbound marketing activities, such as presenting technical papers at professional symposia’s, conferences or other events to promote our solutions and authoring technical articles for the trade press.
  • Working with corporate marketing and other product marketing team members to develop, present, and drive training programs to the sales force on new products, enhancements, third party accessories or competitive issues.
  • Collaborating with the Nanoports and other lab staff to develop effective, specialized techniques with the aim of maximizing the impact of demonstrations to customers.
  • The product marketing engineer will also assist with strategic marketing activities, including new market assessment and sizing. This will involve interactions with senior management.
The Requirements

This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who wants to develop their marketing expertise and be involved with a dynamic team in a successful and rapidly growing product line.

The candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
  • Requires a University degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline. Ideally candidates would have a PhD and be considered a domain knowledge expert.
  • Typically requires 5-10 years experience in a relevant technical environment and a working knowledge of the fundamentals of semiconductor device behavior and layout.
  • Experience with TEM’s, SEM’s, FIB’s or similar systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel both domestically as well as internationally and possession of a valid passport.
  • Enthusiasm and clear communication skills with a geographically diverse audience will be required. The ability to make confident, positive presentations to customers, engineers, account managers and executive staff will be critical to the success of this position.
