Job Description

Position Summary:

  • Plan, schedule, organize, and carry out of multi-staged, multi-stepped processes to produce products.
  • Requires analysis of raw data and interpretation of results or optimize product performance.
  • Formulate the products and perform the necessary in-process testing; prepare the final product for filling.
  • Evaluate approved raw materials to determine suitability for production use.
  • Analyze raw materials, in process product, or finished product according to established procedures and as directed by supervisor/scientist.
  • Record results and other data in the prescribed manner to meet regulatory requirements and provide information basic to product disposition.
  • Perform the necessary control tests to assure the validity of the testing procedures as directed by the supervisor/scientist.
  • Perform experiments to assess product problems under the direction of the supervisor/application scientist. Assist in other forms of troubleshooting as directed.
  • Assist in technology/method transfer for new products. Provide technical assistance for documentation to the application/transfer scientist.
  • Responsible for work on multiple product/instrument lines.
  • Perform required maintenance and operations of laboratory equipment and instrumentation according to prescribed quality audits and maintenance procedures to assure accuracy and confidence in performance.
  • Validate, calibrate, and standardize instrumentation to complete in-process testing.
  • Maintain complete and accurate production records in conformance with GMP and FDA requirements.
  • Continuously monitor work area for unsafe conditions and take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Responsible for quality of product produced.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for orienting/training of new hires as well as cross training of others
  • Ability to perform final review of documentation before submission.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a leader in the team.
  • Work with manager to identify issues, resource needs and improvement opportunities. Offer suggestions for resolution/improvements
  • Process change orders
  • Participate in hiring/recruiting process
  • Participate/Lead in PPI events and problem solving. Assist employees with JDI/PPI process.
  • Monitor, track and provide feedback on employee performance through PMD process
  • Provide coaching and corrective actions when needed
  • Manage employee time and attendance through etime
  • Continuously monitor work area for unsafe conditions and take immediate action to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in project implementation


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Chemistry and/or Biology field with at least one year experience or 5 years of in-house experience and accumulated academic credits. At least one year direct experience in reagent formulation and in-process testing in clinical diagnostics manufacturing.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience, or non-degree with five years of in-house experience and accumulated academic credits.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Leadership capabilities


Physical Requirements:

  • Normal manufacturing environment.
  • Position may require frequent communication and walking to other areas in which designated PPE will be required.
  • Position will require sitting and standing.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Respirator Fit Test within in 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 110 pounds. Employee to employ traditional lifting techniques for materials up to 75 lbs. Items over 75 lbs will require the employee to use non traditional techniques including, push-pull method, automated lifts and other equipment or additional techniques. Employee will be trained in these techniques upon employment. Employees already in position will require one time training.


Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Proficient in the use and management of working spreadsheets, databases and word-processing.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. Able to implement, compile, format and report technical result data.
  • Working and theoretical knowledge of laboratory automated and analytical instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of organic chemistry, statistics, data processing and good manufacturing practices is desirable.
