The National Fire and Preparedness (NFP) Sales and Customer Service Support Specialist will assist NFP field sales team on specific customer opportunities related to products and services as well as provide customer service support for the NFP mailbox. This individual will implement customer-specific action plans, work with purchasing and safety management to perform hazard assessments, make product recommendations, provide product training with regard to occupational health and safety equipment, and resolving customer service-related issues. This role will dual report into customer service as 50% of the role will support the NFP mailbox and the other 50% to provide the NFP field sales team support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Field Sales Representatives on specific opportunities as required; activities can include sales and administrative activities that result in a reduction in sales-cycle time or improve probability of sales success (bid, quote and proposal development, shipping issues, follow-up calls to customers, etc.).
  • Work as directed by NFP Director to assist with Field Sales Representative territory lead-generation and initiative development and execution.
  • Work to assist with customer issues or inquiries as needed; examples may include delivery issues, invoicing, product questions, etc.
  • Develop and maintain effective customer relations with purchasing and end user within assigned territory
  • Independently make decisions, but also utilize available resources to meet customer needs and work effectively with cross-functional team of supplier and internal resources
  • Research competitor and industry activity and keep informed of new products/services and other general information of interest to customers incorporating this data in the business plan; Introduces new products and services
  • Manage pricing within territory to control profitability
  • Maintain accurate reporting, records, and files necessary for proper management of territory
  • Communicate with supervisor any customer issues or potential problems; perform other tasks assigned by manager
  • Inform customers of supply and price trends and assist in inventory control
  • Positively represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at all times throughout customer location.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience in a sales, customer support or other relevant role.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and the internet.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years in the Military, Municipal or Domestic Preparedness industries.
  • Knowledge, use, and awareness of most of the following product categories and services: hazmat, SCBA’s, turn out gear, firefighting equipment, EMS, logistics and general line of safety products.
  • Familiarity and experience with government funding and customer procurement process of state, local, and federal government entities.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Must deliver excellent customer service.
  • Must possess the organizational skills to multi-task and meet deadlines as needed.

  • Must possess a strong desire to serve the customer.
  • Proven record of establishing goals and achieving results.
