Job Description
Position Summary:
The Finance Shared Services Center (SSC) for the North America Region will be comprised of a high performing team responsible for the timely delivery of standardized financial processes on behalf of Thermo Fisher Finance and their business partners within the Commercial and Manufacturing operations. When fully formed, the group will perform certain accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting activities from the regionally centralized location.
This role will be responsible for conducting key local general accounting activities such as Month End and Quarter End close, Intercompany, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, Account Reconciliations, Budget Control, compliance with local Free Trade Zone Agreement, local regulatory reporting, Internal/External Audit processes support and General Ledger for the Costa Rica legal entity. The objective of this role is to enable the Finance SSC to meet their business objectives by providing quality general accounting analysis and overall business support for the Center Leadership and local division / country colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control activities related to General Accounting (GA) processing system(s) to assure correct accounting reporting
  • Support components or portions of the GA responsibilities inclusive of Intercompany, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Reconciliations, Month End Close, Local Statutory & Financial Reporting (Procomer), and US GAAP General Ledger reporting
  • Prepare reports of findings and recommendations to Regional Center Finance leadership
  • Perform period end financial close activities and meet all related deadlines
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reports as needed
  • Handle local and Corporate accounting policy and procedure inquiries, ad hoc reporting and analysis requests, provide periodic customer/center training
  • Ensure customer needs and relationships are fulfilled and enhanced through proactive involvement and interaction
  • Serve in a liaison role with the Corporate Finance department
  • Assist General Accounting Lead and General Accounting Team Leaders as needed; participate in special projects that require creative and analytical skills
  • Develop and assist in automating processes utilizing innovative technical and processing solutions
  • Support necessary financial applications
  • Maintain complete and accurate standard operating procedures and support control documentation requirements (SOX) where required
  • Handle general accounting activities for the Costa Rica entity including intercompany, general Ledger, fixed assets, reconciliations, Month End Close, statutory & financial reporting, IFRS reporting, Procomer requirements and audits, customs process and others.
  • Partner with the local payroll outsource provider any topic relate with payroll.
  • Reports of incidents (income of employees, terminations, changes in salary or position, permits, vacations, benefits, coffee shop, transportation and others.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in accounting is required
  • CPA/MBA preferred, public accounting experience a strong plus
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Proficiency in PC skills (MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint) required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Exactus and SAP preferred
  • Intermediate level in English and fluency in Spanish Required
