The Equipment Maintenance Team Leader located in Grand Island, New York is responsible for leading a robust manufacturing maintenance excellence program through focused efforts to drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of maintenance. This role provides leadership for the manufacturing maintenance programs and oversight of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). This position ensures the validated state of process equipment is maintained and documented through program ownership and direct supervision of Production Maintenance Mechanics and Technicians.

Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling, coordinating, directing and performing maintenance of manufacturing equipment, administering maintenance records, administering CMMS activities, coordinating and directing contractor activities, and leading, developing and training maintenance personnel. This role is responsible for operating within budgets established for Production Maintenance accounts and maintaining documentation requirements to meet E.H.S. and ISO guidelines.

MANAGE, INSTALL, MAINTAIN, INSPECT, TROUBLESHOOT & REPAIR
  • Creates and manages an operational budget for department including a total headcount of approximately 10 employees.
  • Ability to motivate a workforce, assign accountability, communicate requirements, and make things happen with a sense of urgency.
  • Maintain a robust maintenance excellence program to maximize machine safety, quality, availability and efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with quality systems; prepare and administer documented maintenance records
  • Specify and maintain critical spare parts, while minimizing on-hand balance of stores items.
  • Manage departmental resources to support achievement of plant objectives.
  • Ensure required and appropriate safety and technical training is provided for departmental associates.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for equipment utilizing CMMS.
  • Direct and advise maintenance associates regarding technical issues
  • Maintain maintenance work spaces to the specified standard of organization and cleanliness
  • Oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • Assist in the planning and execution of large maintenance projects and shutdown work
  • Ensure timely response to urgent plant needs
  • Energetic, with a solid work ethic and dedication to continuous improvement of maintenance processes. Must possess an uncompromising commitment to occupational safety.
  • Using employee participation creates work center performance goals and leads work center and each individual towards achieving those goals. Performs full performance evaluations for all direct reports.
  • Identifies and provides developmental opportunities for high potential employees.
  • Provides continuous coaching to all employees for the purpose of improving their job skills and professional behaviors
  • Manages process improvements of a limited scope, utilizing 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Manages work request and preventative/predictive maintenance system and activities
  • Selects and manages the services of third party contractors. Assists in selecting vendors and negotiating their contracts.
  • Makes technical risk decisions under real-time pressure.
  • Initiates investigations into process failures and safety incidents, and identifies and implements appropriate corrective and preventive actions
SAFETY & COMPLIANCE
  • Follows all company and safety policies and procedures such as GMPs, Lock out / Tag out, Confined space, including, but not limited to wearing product specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, safety glasses, etc.
  • Follows all cGMPs and ensures product is manufactured according to procedure and current Good Manufacturing Practices and provides timely notification to management of any discrepancy that has a direct or indirect impact on product quality.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • The position requires a minimum of 5 years manufacturing equipment maintenance experience in a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Formal technical education in relevant maintenance trades is preferred.
  • Certification in one or more maintenance trades.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work cross functionally across departments and with all levels of employees.
  • Requires intimate knowledge of manufacturing process and inter-departmental responsibilities.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work with internal and external customers.
  • Effectiveness in this role requires a working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and the ability to see opportunities for improved effectiveness.
  • The job encounters work situations of diverse scope and moderate complexity.
  • The Maintenance Team Lead operates within generally defined procedures and practices under general direction and minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Required skills: Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems encountered within manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
  • Experience determining training needs, organizing and/or conducting training.
  • Proven ability to direct personnel to accomplish daily work as well as periodic special projects.
  • Excellent creative problem solving, data analysis and influence skills preferred. User level working knowledge of PC software required.
