Job Description
Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex calculations based on Molarity, percent by volume, dilutions, ppm, and ppb
  • Prepare high quality specialized media, including buffers, microbial agar plates, mammalian cell culture media, and antibiotics
  • Perform specific tasks associated with media prep, including but not limited to pH titration, osmolality adjustment, sterile filtration techniques, and aliquots
  • Verification, calibration, and use of common and specialized lab equipment including, but not limited to magnetic mixer, hot plate, micropipettors, autoclave, balances, laminar flow and fume hoods, pH and conductivity meters, osmometers, Blood Gas Analyzers, vacuum filtration, peristaltic pumps, and Nitrogen gas lines
  • Verification of peer calculations, technical documentation, equipment log books, and approval of completed documents
  • Technical writing of all media prep documents in standard Media Request procedure format. May use electronic document database to author, route, and review technical documents
  • Perform equipment verifications and calibrations following customer and manufacturers protocols
  • May track lab equipment information including calibration schedules, open work orders, and equipment status using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CCMS)
  • Promote a safe work environment through various safety initiatives within functional area
  • Participate in individual or group projects that can include, cost savings analysis, learning groups, writing job training methods, and leading team meetings
  • Can engage in training activities with new-hires when working in conjunction with a Site Supervisor
  • May prepare media for shipment for off-site use, including classifying media hazard category and providing required MSDS
  • Operate multiple software programs used in sample order fulfillment
  • Weigh and dispense solid compound samples used for research
  • Prepare solid compound samples for shipment to additional sites
  • Daily work with toxic and unknown solid compound samples
  • Support the Quality Management System by:
    • Development, maintenance and full adherence to departmental work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) in fulfillment of the requirements of our Quality Management System and the expectations of our interested parties (internal / external).
    • Identify and report quality or compliance concerns to management and the quality function and take immediate actions to remedy.
    • Complete all planned or unplanned quality & compliance training requirements within defined deadlines

Additional GXP Responsibilities:
  • Prepare high quality GXP media for pre-clinical client base
  • Perform GXP equipment verifications and calibrations following customer SOP’s
  • Verify GXP equipment log book entries, including calculations
  • Review completed GXP log forms including but not limited to balance verification, pH meter, Chain of Custody, and Chemical Inventory review
  • Perform quarterly GXP chemical inventory review following customer SOP guidelines
  • May participate in quarterly GXP binder review sessions
  • Fully trained on equipment monitoring for Critical Environmental Monitoring Ssystems.
  • May have responsibility for responding and inhibiting CEMS alarms, monitoring and trending Controlled Environmental Monitoring System data for GLP refrigeration units
  • Maintain Good Documentation Practices by following customer SOPs
  • May serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for GXP regulatory procedures for new or existing GXP client groups
  • Verify and determine the regulatory status or all requested GXP media requests
  • Maintain annual GXP training through customer’s Learning Management System
  • Maintain a current resume with up to date job title, description, and dates, in the Unity Lab Services binder. To be made available in the event of a regulatory audit request
  • May work with GXP client groups to train and provide SME to outsourced media when needed
  • Provide copies of all requested completed documents to GXP clients or auditing bodies when requested
  • Participate in Practical Process Improvement projects to eliminate waste and increase productivity


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Must possess a minimum of a Associates degree in related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and presentation skills
  • 0-3 years of progressive relevant experience preferred
  • Displays a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Four-I Values
  • Experience in laboratory setting or services preferred
  • Experience in GLP/GMP environment preferred
  • Proven excellence in customer service skills
  • Detail oriented, problem solver, promotes team environment
  • Computer/software skills (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Must possess a high level of communication skills to provide guidance to others in performing the work, to effectively present information and respond to questions or customer service requests and interact with various levels of the customer’s organization
  • Must be able to provide suggestions for corrective action and preventive customer service through using process improvement tools
  • Must be organized and detail oriented to be able to prioritize own work and meet business productivity metrics
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills in dealing with a variety of routine and non-routine issues
