Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees royalty contract set-up in the database and manages it to ensure all royalty contracts are accounted
  • Reviews royalty contracts to determine proper accounting treatment for out-licensing revenue and royalty owed for in-licensing contracts
  • Gathers information from business owners to prepare close analysis and entries, records royalty revenues, expenses, payments and accruals
  • Analyzes and reconciles periodic reports for in-licensing and out-licensing for periodic adjustments
  • Ensures business transactions continue to be in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, revenue recognition policies and SOX controls
  • Partners and supports the Finance teams by assisting with royalty revenue and expense related questions

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assists with reviews and analysis of non-royalty contracts to evaluate and identify potential revenue recognition issues (i.e. complex language, omissions of data, necessary additions, language changes)
  • Documents work product using available systems and tools
  • Provides oral and written communication to impacted departments
  • Acts as liaison with internal and external auditors

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, Series 404
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Email
  • Ability to learn new software and implement changes in accounting system
  • Proficient in SAP and JD Edwards/E1

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Finance or Accounting preferred) with 3-5 year of previous accounting experience
  • Previous experience with royalty/license revenue and expense accounting, month-end close, and contract compliance.
