Summary:
As part of the Unity Lab Services organization, the Field Service Engineer is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining laboratory equipment (may include, but not limited to: centrifuges, incubators, refrigeration, ultra-low freezers, water products, shakers, water baths, and monitoring systems) and training end-users on equipment operation. The Field Service Representative position will be remotely-based with travel to customer sites within the territory. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in electronics and refrigeration, excellent communication, time management and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes a spectrum of service offerings to customers (including, but not limited to: installations, extended service contracts, preventative maintenance, time & material service, service parts kits and consumables, service training, validation, and wireless monitoring services)
  • Repairs and supports customers’ products and provides courteous and knowledgeable response to technical issues, meeting commitments in a timely manner
  • Performs technical diagnosis of operational problems and repairs/calibrations on wide range of laboratory equipment to ensure that the equipment is operating to the customer’s complete satisfaction and manufacture specifications
  • Provide consistent and timely communication to customer as it relates to service event (status, cost, scheduling, etc.)
  • Schedules and delivers preventative maintenance service
  • Advises customers on how to properly operate instruments
  • Complete all administrative tasks (expense reports, work orders, etc.)
  • Maintains spare parts inventory, tools, manuals and test equipment
  • Promptly escalate customer and/or technical issues to Regional Service Manager
  • Provide territory coverage and depot repair support, as needed.
  • In addition to training end users and distributors, serves as a source of technical product knowledge and trains, as required, other service engineers and provides supervision as required in the course of this duty.
  • Performs technical evaluations on product changes and on new products, including software verification, collection of performance data, assessment of user friendliness, ease of maintenance, etc. Provide written reports on evaluations.
  • Assists with customer training by preparing instruments and supplies as well as giving presentations
  • Promotes and sells various types of extended warranty and preventative maintenance contracts on equipment, user training, and Service Replacement Orders
  • Advises sales representatives of potential selling opportunities within accounts
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Hands-on lab equipment experience (which can include, but not limited to, centrifuges, incubators, refrigeration, ultra-low freezer, cold rooms and LN2 cryo storage)
  • 1 -3 years job related experience
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve problems on sophisticated electronic, mechanical and optical instrumentation in a commercial scientific laboratory environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze component layout drawings, schematics, assembly drawings, wiring and labeling diagrams.
  • Strong communication skills in all delivery methods
  • Ability to prioritize service requirements (service calls, installations, and escalations) and establish realistic schedules to meet requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and basic PC skills
  • Ability to travel overnight up 20%
  • Available to work overtime, as required
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Essential Functions and Physical Requirements
    • Ability to safely lift 50 Lbs with assistance on occasion.
    • Ability to safely lift and carry 25-30 Lbs continuously throughout the day.
    • Ability to bend, squat, stretch, and reach on a daily basis in a service function.
    • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in Electronics, or equivalent experience
  • HVAC/R Technical School certification and/or degree, or equivalent experience
  • Refrigeration / EPA Universal certification
  • Experience with: Cascade Refrigeration, Separation products, Controlled temperature lab product/instruments, and/or Wireless Monitoring Systems

Location:
The territory primarily covers a customer location in Wilson, NC, and will provide support to other customer sites in the Raleigh, NC and Charleston, SC areas. This position will be remotely-based in the territory with local travel required. Overnight travel required up to 20%.
