Responsibilities:

Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science is seeking to fill the position of Director, Product Stewardship within its Life Sciences Group of divisions.

The incumbent is responsible for setting and implementing strategy to meet global product compliance regulations. The position is responsible for leading product hazardous communication, dangerous goods transport compliance, chemical notification/registrations and design-for-environment functions. The incumbent will direct a staff of 20 professionals (on-shore and off-shore) and lead key projects related to compliance infrastructure and integrations. By leading the Design-for-Environment initiative, the incumbent will seek out novel solutions to the most onerous compliance changes and promote value of greener product and manufacturing process alternatives.

  • Set and implement policy for product compliance for all relevant regulations
  • Manage all necessary registrations and notifications as well as annual reports
  • Serve as project leader on major dossier development (e.g., REACH Authorization) and provide input on business strategies around the same
  • Represent EHS and Product Stewardship function in new product introductions
  • Serve as work stream leader for business acquisitions and integrations
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with international GHS requirements (e.g. CLP, HazComm 2012,, WHIMIS, etc.), including labeling and SDS for portfolio of >250,000 products
  • Build and maintain proactive partnerships with trade group and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain a proactive awareness of global regulatory trends and regulations and effectively communicate implications to senior leadership
  • Drive operational productivity through sustainable product design measures
  • Oversee Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Green Product Design program. Ensure products meet corporate ‘Green Leaf’ and FTC Green Guide criteria, conducting technical and legal evaluations
  • Directly engage with customers and commercial partners to support business
  • Act as primary emergency contact on chemical spills and exposures

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A minimal 4-year degree
  • 5+ years’ experience working with international chemical compliance regulations
  • Demonstrated Project Management capabilities influencing functions outside and within area of direct authority
  • Able to concurrently manage multiple large scale projects
  • Capable of implementing strategic compliance solutions to complex global regulations
  • Effective written and oral communicator with experience delivering to all levels within an organization
