Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and procure materials and services for WAI, supporting ongoing demand, new product development efforts, end of life requirements and obsolescence management; maintain inventory at planned levels for each phase
  • Analyzes material cost impact on the business and develops appropriate response
  • Develop new and manage ongoing cost reduction efforts utilizing Total Cost of Ownership, Return-on-Investment and Make/Buy methodologies
  • Participate in the research and development of product specifications that meet the requirements of the end item products
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Suppliers to execute Value Engineering (VE) opportunities
  • Work with the Approved Supplier List and analyzes trends to develop strategies for supplier management and optimization
  • Select suppliers utilizing negotiation and competitive bid process
  • Negotiate and manage legal and commercial contracts for assigned commodities (under supervision)
  • Monitor Supplier performance, resolve material non-conformances and lead corrective action recommendations
  • Work closely with Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to evaluate supplier capabilities and reliability, perform on-site supplier assessments as needed; participate in supplier scorecard process
  • Deploy value-added inventory management techniques (e.g., Demand/Pull, SOMI and Consignment
  • Ensure alignment of supply base with corporate guidelines on payment terms
  • Put programs & standard processes in place to mitigate supply risk
  • Manage the site’s commodity category approach to low cost region sourcing
  • Responsible for ensuring corporate regulatory compliance and risk management mitigation
  • Participates in every aspect of supply chain management to maintain a reliable and cost competitive source of supply

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in business or related field is preferred
  • 7+ years purchasing experience as a direct material buyer
  • A combination of job related experience, ongoing educational progress, and related certification may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within established deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard terms and conditions instituted in supply agreements
  • Able to understand and interpret procurement and sourcing metrics and scorecards
  • Strong PC computer skills including Excel (pivot tables and VLookups a must), Word and Power Point
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group to accomplish individual and team objectives
  • Working knowledge of MRP and ERP principles and materials management; SAP experience a plus
  • Experience with supplier certification processes as well as Make/Buy analyses
  • Familiarity with productivity programs and Lean concepts
  • Open to occasional travel
