Job Description

The role of the Associate System Administrator is a technical role that ensures the continued operation of desktop or laptop equipment and associated peripherals for both local and remote staff within the EMEA region. These duties are carried out in accordance with prescribed tools and processes.

This individual will work under the general direction of an IT Supervisor, ensuring that defined Service Levels are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Site Support Duties
  • Basic hardware and software Incident resolution for on-site and remote users within the defined Service Level Agreements utilising standard remote control tools. Escalating as required
  • Monitoring the service management tool and updating as incidents are progressed or resolved
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Carry out hardware installation, moves, adds and changes as directed.
  • Software installation using software deployment tools
  • Provision of VIP Executive support, including basic hardware/software/mobility incidents
  • PC lifecycle administration using Service Management software
  • Network support including cable tracing, patching and basic troubleshooting back to the switch
  • Deliver project work under guidance when agreed.
  • Comply with Desktop Good Working Practices and wider Thermo Fisher Scientific Quality Management processes.
  • Identify opportunities for Continuous Service Improvement (e.g. Shift Left)
  • Present an effective, helpful and professional Thermo Fisher Scientific presence to our customer.
  • Assists in creation of documented standard processes and procedures for all aspects of Desktop Support including reviewing and maintaining the Knowledge Base articles.
  • Adhere to all IT policies and procedures, including those for security, Data centre standards, desktop standards, etc.
Position Requirements:
  • Degree qualified in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field would be preferred.
  • ITIL qualification at Foundation Certificate would be advantageous
  • Proven technical accreditation including, but not limited to MCP AD, MCP WIN 7
  • Working experience of Active Directory Administration including Users and Computers and an understanding of Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
  • Maintenance of enterprise backups, including tape rotation
  • Experience as a Desktop Engineer in a Windows OS environment
  • Working knowledge of desktop computer operating systems, including MAC OS
  • Support experience with Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer management skills
  • Results-oriented and driven
  • Highly customer focussed
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and work within timescales to deadlines
  • Good analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
