Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and follow:
    • Safe lab practices
    • Good documentation practices. The associate is expected to maintain detailed documentation and implement updates in support of ISO requirements
  • Commit to producing and maintaining the highest standard of quality in antibody production
  • Drive continuous growth through training and participation in systems such as: 5S, Lean and Practical Process Improvement
  • Ensure on-time delivery of production work and projects
  • Perform with assistance of batch records, standard work instructions, operating procedures:
    • Protein isolation and purification
    • Chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion). FPLC experience helpful
    • Protein modification (cross linking, fluorescent, protein and small molecule conjugations)
    • Protein lyophilization
    • Carrier protein conjugations with peptides or fusion proteins
    • Antibody purification / modification
    • Antibody validation via various functional tests, i.e. WB / ELISA / IHC / IP / IF / FACS
    • SDS-PAGE
    • Tissue and cell culturing
    • Transfection, cloning and protein expression
    • Small and large scale buffer preparations
    • Protein/enzyme assays
    • UV / VIS Spectrophotometry measurements
    • Calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation
    • Set up and take down of labware
  • Limited troubleshooting proficiency in the above is expected
  • Independently use scientific methods to resolve difficult issues
    • Initiate problem reports and changes to update procedures to current best practice
  • Write new batch records, bills of material and operating procedures, as required
  • Understand biological protein pathways
    • Regularly use bioinformatics resources in research and qualification
  • Analyze customer feedback and inquiries as required
  • Interact with large volume and custom sales, marketing, planning, purchasing, R&D and quality with demonstrated peer acceptance
  • Serve as manufacturing representative on new product launches, as required
  • Maintain accurate inventory
    • Assist the manufacturing support associate and/or material handling in cycle counting or physical inventory as required

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree in a Biochemical / Biological sciences, Chemistry, or Life science emphasis; Masters degree, preferred
  • Demonstrate 2 to 8 years hands on lab experience. It is desired that the associate have prior experience in a manufacturing role with a solid understanding relevant to corporate goals, objectives and strategies
  • Able to demonstrate analytical thought process and understand experimental design
  • Posses a proven track record of time management and demonstrated ability to schedule lab activities to optimize performance and productivity
  • Experience with aseptic handling technique. Autoclave experience is helpful.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Hazardous Waste Generation/Management: Associates in this position may as part of their job activities generate or manage hazardous waste as defined by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Individuals in this position are required to receive initial hazardous waste training within the first 30 working days of assignment. The initial waste training shall include but not be limited to the following general categories: Identifying hazardous and solid waste, hazardous waste management, recycling, treatment and disposal, emergency preparedness, record keeping, pollution prevention and waste reduction. Following initial training the Associate in this position will receive annual refresher training in the same topic field as listed above. Associate should be comfortable working frequently with organics, including flammable solvents, strong acids / bases, potential biohazards (including raw animal serums), large scale bacterial cultures, and hazardous chemicals
