Position Summary:

Location: Midwest Territory covers Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.

As a Microarray Technical Sales Specialist you will achieve your success by being responsible for the direct sale of the company’s products and/or services within the Midwest area. You will be expected to manage your business, be successful by challenging your customers and creating useful insights they can use to drive their research or product development forward. Additionally you will work closely with a team of Genetic Analysis sales representatives to effectively drive business throughout your accounts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generates and qualifies sales leads building and managing a strong pipeline to fruition
  • Generates forecast reports
  • Builds and manages accounts in assigned territory
  • Support and coordinate efforts with the Genetic Analysis Sales Representatives
  • Increases customer awareness of Affymetrix and is an advocate for its platforms and applications across the Affymetrix portfolio
  • Creates strong and impactful relationships with customers resulting in sales and support
  • Devises and implements account and territory strategies
  • Identifies and communicates product improvements and new product opportunities
  • Identifies and mitigates competitive barriers
  • Provide market intelligence back into the organization
  • May provide after sales technical support and customer service
  • Coordinates and/or conducts both technical and promotional seminars
  • Initiates and coordinates action plans to penetrate new markets
  • Participates in process and operation improvement opportunities
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries
  • Complies with company quality management systems, policies and procedures
  • Provides mentorship, if applicable
  • Additional duties/responsibilities according to business needs


Education: Bachelor’s degree in a life science field

Yrs of related experience: 5-8 years

  • Competencies: (proven sales skills, technical knowledge related to genomics and genetics)
  • Interpersonal skills: works well in a team environment, strong communication skills, able to build trust
  • Results oriented: proven sales success, consistent performance record
