Job Description

Job Title: Director, Digital Marketing
Reports to: VP, Global Marketing and Strategy

The Digital Marketing Director has responsibility for leading, building and driving the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division’s (CMD) success across web and digital channels. The Director will bring about a transformational change that will create a new CMD digital marketing culture and result in new, innovative ways to connect with customers and prospects. The role will capitalize on the Division’s technical and scientific knowledge to elevate the Thermo Scientific brand, relevance and customer experience. The Director will leverage social, mobile and other digital platforms to drive demand, execute brand strategy, build brand equity and create customer loyalty. They will understand and analyze customer viewing patterns and implement new initiatives to increase customer conversions and drive overall digital performance. This digital leader will also align with third-party channel partners to define merchandising strategy on partner web sites. The Director will have a strong strategic and global perspective, excellent collaboration and communication skills and extensive knowledge in digital marketing techniques.


  • Create a digital marketing culture that transforms the way CMD marketing professionals utilize digital channels to position and message our value proposition and drive demand
  • Drive strategy and tactics to improve brand equity & relevance and create a customer experience that is acknowledged by customers as the best in the industry
  • Implement digital initiatives that have a direct and measureable impact on CMD’s Customer Allegiance Score (CAS) performance, customer communication and overall customer satisfaction with Thermo Fisher Scientific
  • Develop merchandising and promotional plans based on analyses of customer viewing patterns, browse paths, content interest and community activity
  • Design strategy and tactics to drive web and mobile traffic, page visits and site metrics, customer conversions and demand generation (SRLs) which improve marketing ROI
  • Collaborate with CMD Vertical, BU and Regional marketing on product and application content needs that are important to customers and communities
  • Interface with Corporate Marketing to ensure alignment on go-to-market digital strategies and capabilities needed to improve merchandising effectiveness and results
  • Utilize data-driven analysis to assess environmental, food & beverage and clin/tox markets and identify new prospects with buying interest. Utilize social channels to reach and connect with influencers in the segments.
  • Build digital dashboards that track real-time customer activity through all digital channels and consult with marketing managers on emerging customer trends & opportunities
  • Provide training and support to increase digital knowledge, capabilities and performance across the CMD marketing community.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business or e-commerce; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years B2B digital marketing experience with demonstrated proficiency in core online merchandising techniques/technology, search engine optimization, social media and web analytics
  • Proven capabilities in developing online business strategy to drive customer engagement and growth in revenue (service, support, merchandising, order/quote, training)
  • In-depth knowledge of integrated marketing and digital disciplines: audience identification and analysis, targeting, experience design, digital production and online analytics
  • Excellent project management skills, with strong technical understanding of web environment and use of online marketing
  • Ability to travel 10-25%
  • Strong collaborative and influencing skills to navigate through matrixed organization
  • Significant experience in building and leading high-performing marketing organizations
  • Excellent strategic thinker with superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative approach to developing and sharing strategy, tactics and analytics
