Our Portable Analytical Instruments (PAI) delivers best-in-class handheld and mobile x-ray fluorescence (XRF), near infrared (NIR), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), and Raman-based analytical instruments to meet customers’ most demanding applications. In this business critical position we are looking for a Global Market Segment Manager to own the market segment strategy for one of the three major segments of the PAI business (Industrial, Safety & Security, or Pharma). You will translate market learnings into an actionable strategy by investigating and quantifying growth opportunities for the PAI business and help drive future success.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth market research (market research reports, VOC, trade shows, etc) to uncover unmet needs
- Propose projects that enter the PAI Phase Gate process and develop business cases to justify resource allocation
- Partner with R&D and product management organizations to accelerate and launch Phase Gate projects
- Develop a commercial launch plans for new products including defining launching customers and a go-to-market strategy
- Play a lead role in communicating the strategy to the broader PAI organization and build buy-in from the sales organization for seamless execution of the strategy
- Network within Thermo Fisher and externally to be able to inform the direction of the business based on activities in other parts of Thermo Fisher and trends in the market
- Meet with existing and potential customers to understand and categorize unmet market needs
- 5-8 years of experience in a marketing role, preferably in a global setting
- Understands the fundamentals of strategic marketing including knowledge and application of VOC, market segmentation, industry/competitive analysis, value proposition, and pricing
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- High level of judgment when interpreting input from the market
- Able to lead cross-functionally to accelerate new product/market development opportunities
- Able to assess impact of projects and prioritize/allocate time accordingly
- Excellent problem solving skills with attention to detail; ability to step back and analyze the overall business impact
- Strong verbal and written communications skills and ability to support business unit executives with analysis and presentations
- Strong skills in PowerPoint and excel
- Capable of researching industries, applications, customers, and market trends to be able to draw meaningful conclusions towards business case development
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science required; MBA preferred
