"What I do is not just about me, not just about my family, not even about our company. This is about millions of other families who are looking for answers."

Joe, Senior Vice President and CIO

Our leaders set the strategic direction and manage the daily operations of each of our businesses. Roles on our leadership team typically consist of a General Manager and the leaders of sales, operations, finance, and other functions.

The leader is responsible for delivering high-quality products and services today, and developing the innovations that will serve customers even better in the future. The leadership team also strives to hit certain financial targets in order to fund future growth for the company, ultimately to serve our customers better.

A General Manager can come from many different paths, with our current leaders starting as scientists, sales representatives, manufacturing supervisors, finance controllers and other areas. No matter where your journey begins, one of the keys to success in a leadership role is gaining the critical ability to set strategic direction and make strategic trade-offs for the business.

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, General Managers are given an unusual amount of autonomy to set direction and run their business. We empower our leaders so they can be quick and nimble in responding to customers. We are a performance-driven organization and support learning and development across all levels of the organization. Executives are provided with opportunities that align with their career aspirations. If you’re able to take a balanced view of customer needs, market direction, current resources and capabilities, and apply that to strategy and trade-offs, you have some of the important tools for success with Thermo Fisher.
