Job Description
  • Facilities Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, operating, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting and repairing various types of refrigeration equipment and DX HVAC equipment
  • Perform PMs and repairs on compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, valves, and other machinery included in the refrigeration equipment
  • Replacement of defective mechanical and manual valves
  • Remove and reinstall compressors, including compressor and pump shaft seal replacements
  • Replace defective fan motors. Perform motor alignments
  • Remove ice buildup from evaporator drain pans, investigate the cause and correct the problem
  • Perform oil sampling for analysis on a regular schedule
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems
  • Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; repairs and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment
  • Routinely observes facilities to detect malfunctions and ensure safe and effective operation according to the manufacturers specifications and SOPs, pump-down procedures, LOTO procedures. Verify and document
  • Diagnose causes of non-compliant systems operation and complete repairs/adjustments to return systems to original operating specification. Report and maintain a log of all non-compliant conditions with explanation of cause, effect and repair of systems as returned to normal
  • Works directly with any outside refrigeration contractors, electricians, and pipe fitters when they are working on refrigeration systems to ensure that they are following all of the company safety policies, and meeting work standards
  • Participates and completes required training sessions for facilities operations, standard operating procedures, regulatory site procedures, quality, safety, etc.
  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Trade School Degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical/refrigeration/utilities field in an industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Applicant should have strong electrical refrigeration knowledge and experience in a commercial/industrial environment. Skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of refrigeration system equipment and components, locating and diagnosing trouble in the refrigeration system or equipment. Must be able to maintain and repair compressors, refrigeration controls, condensers, etc. Knowledge of the tools, equipment, refrigerants and materials common to the refrigeration trade.
  • Type II or EPA Universal Certification
  • Must have skills associated with the following:
  • HVAC and Refrigeration for medium and low temperature DX systems, including brazing and soldering of piping. Plumbing for sinks and drainage fixtures and repair Electrical/Control wiring – installation of all types of data cable and low voltage cables including low voltage control wiring and misc.120 volt wiring systems.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to adjust quickly to changing demands
  • Must be able to read and interpret P&ID drawings/schematics
  • Knowledge and hands on experience with refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical, electrical and control systems
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System to initiate, track and complete work requests
  • Utilize the Building Automation System to monitor equipment and processes to ensure effective site operations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and Excel
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid PA driver’s license required for traveling between multiple sites

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or technical training program and/or 5 -7 years of progressively responsible equipment installation, building maintenance and repair experience in the mechanical/refrigeration/utilities field in an industrial or manufacturing setting is preferred
  • Experience in an pharmaceutical and/or food industry with cGMP knowledge
