Job Title: Engineering Reliability and Maintenance Planner
Location: Basingstoke

Working within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Speciality Diagnostic Group, within the Microbiology Division (MBD), our customers worldwide trust our microbiology solutions for the diagnosis of infectious disease and detection of bacterial contamination.

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager provides direct support to production and utility equipment in developing effective planned and unplanned maintenance to ensure systems are reliable and therefore available to meet production requirements. Key to this role is working with the Production Manager and Production area owners to provide a one team mentality.

Development of a flexible multi-skilled team with core transferable skills against demand fluctuations is an essential deliverable. Build robust Root Cause and Countermeasure (RCCM), analysis and systems to ensure planned maintenance work is effective. Develop engineering departments knowledge and use of modern maintenance best practice.

  • Build strong relationships within production and production engineering to ensure one team mentality
  • Identify, develop and implement safety processes and systems to meet all site, corporate, regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Develop sites Good Engineering Practice guide and implement agreed aspects on time to in full.
  • Identify the basic requirements for an effective Computer Maintenance Management System and develop the current SAP system to meet these requirements.
  • Ensure all production equipment maintenance is completed on time in full and is effective in what it is delivering and correctly recorded on the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Move the engineering team from reactive maintenance to preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Document maintenance activities in sufficient SOP’s to ensure safety, cGMP and repeatability.
  • Define and implement operator based maintenance program.
  • Working with engineering technicians to ensure all breakdowns are recorded on Computer Maintenance Management System to a high standard.
  • Working with engineering technicians to ensure breakdowns are sufficiently investigated following a RCCM process and ensure all countermeasures are in place to reduce future breakdowns, target 0 repeat breakdowns.
  • To work as part of production to establish and maintain World Class Manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement.
  • Develop a production engineering training matrix for current expertise versus future state to build a multi-skilled team with core transferable skills against demand fluctuations.
  • Management of small project including but not limited to equipment performance improvements, refurbishments and upgrades.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, trouble-shooting, communications, team management, and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Strong ability to involve operators and technicians.
  • Experience working with plant technicians, leadership staff, outside vendors and managing contractors and engineering firms.
  • Must have a good understanding of plant manufacturing, engineering and quality functions
  • Experience with continuous improvement, PPI, LEAN, Six Sigma, TPM, or related processes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS or MS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) or similar discipline or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of maintenance engineering experience in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Must function effectively within ever-changing environments.
  • Must easily adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and change.
  • Must be resilient and calm under pressure and be able to learn and apply new concepts quickly and effectively.
  • Must work collaboratively across organizational boundaries to achieve company results.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and influence individuals at different levels of the organization.
  • Must possess strong problem solving and computer skills.
  • Must have a high mechanical aptitude, a desire for technical excellence, and a history of delivering outstanding results.
  • Must focus on the right priorities, make timely decisions, and deliver on short and long term commitments, bringing consumer considerations to bear on everything we do.
