Job Description

The Production Scheduler works with Planning and Manufacturing to create a schedule that maximizes customer service performance while maintaining an efficient utilization of production resources. In partnership with the rest of the Supply Chain Coordination team, this team member will create and issue a feasible production schedule to ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of work orders required, assigned work stations, work sequencing, and target completion dates. This position will also be responsible for supporting measurement of schedule attainment / adherence metrics, including efforts to identify and resolve issues affecting those metrics.

  • Schedules manufacturing activities and monitors schedule attainment / adherence to support established customer service-level metrics.
  • Works closely with production leadership to validate schedule feasibility.
  • Meets daily as part of the cross-functional supply chain team to resolve issues within the frozen and firm scheduling horizons. Team responsibilities include:
    • Identify actions to resolve delayed material shipments, component shortages, and other identified problems preventing schedule adherence.
    • Reviews established schedules to assure customer service levels are met.
    • Ensure that material, components, and equipment are available for planned set-ups.
  • Sequence manufacturing work orders in optimal order to support multiple and complex constraints including but not limited to: piping paths, line capabilities, cross-contamination and chemical change-over requirements (line-flush and QC testing), packaging and label changeover, material logistics associated with railcars, tanks, trucks, pumps, and feeder lines.
  • Ensures visibility of bulk inventory status via supporting spreadsheets.
  • Position requires spending a substantial portion of their time on the production floor in order to fully understand product flow and production challenges and activities.
  • Responsible to identify alternate scheduling opportunities that will enhance product throughput and reduce inventory and cycle time.
  • Lead efforts to understand root cause and develop corrective actions for process failures relating to scheduling, and planning execution.
  • Proactively drive activities to mitigate failures that may interfere with the production schedule.
  • Participation in and ownership of Continuous Improvement projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or equivalent planning and scheduling experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of scheduling experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively make complex decisions within a limited time frame.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines and multiple levels within the organization.
  • Basic understanding of ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel on an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Should have an independent & organized work style with the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work responsibilities, assume and manage multiple tasks without close supervision while ensuring that deadlines are met.
  • Must have a proactive approach to identifying and resolving manufacturing / scheduling related issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • APICS CPIM Certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with color- and/or rhythm-wheel scheduling.
