Our Laboratory Chemicals business has exceptional growth potential. Laboratory Chemicals was built from several acquisitions and provides a full range of analytical reagents and discovery chemicals to Thermo Fisher’s core research markets worldwide. Laboratory Chemicals has been identified as a strategic growth area for the company with expansion opportunities in the US, Europe and developing markets, particularly Asia. Laboratory Chemicals has 14 operational facilities in the US, Europe, and Asia, and sells a significant portion of its products through Thermo Fisher customers channels group in major Western markets.
This newly created, critical role reports to the QC Manager and has a dotted reporting line to the leader of our Dry Pack Value Stream. This individual will be responsible will be responsible for ensuring the testing of reagent chemicals in accordance with ACS, USP and other outlined company procedures, including analysis by AA, IR, UV-VIS and other instrumental methods. This is a fast-paced environment where it will be necessary to keep focus on longer range projects while managing the day to day challenges of changing priorities. The individual must be practical, energetic, personable, organized and have a hands-on orientation with respect to Quality Control Laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise team of 10 chemist and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Matrix reporting relationship into operations value stream leader.
  • Responsible for assigning and managing work flow through the Quality Control laboratory
  • Work with QC lab personnel and Value Stream manager to manage work flow through the lab
  • Review test result and ensure that all testing are performed accurately prior to approve them in LIMS system
  • Review analytical methods, protocols, SOPs and other technical documents and train QC chemist on relevant procedures
  • Assist with resolution of customer complaints and reviewing batch records. Investigate consumer complaints and communicate with manager and/or cross functional department as needed
  • Perform elementary method analysis and development for troubleshooting purposes. Make recommendations to technical support on analytical methods.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within group.
  • Train QC chemist on departmental procedure and assist them when necessary to troubleshoot procedure related issues
  • Conducts and writes laboratory investigations and identify Root cause for the failure.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained
  • Test samples in accordance with established procedures and using all instrumentation required in the procedures, including AA, IR, UV-VIS.
  • Test samples using wet chemistry technique.
  • Segregate, label and dispose of waste chemicals in accordance with company, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare and calibrate reagent standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years working experience Supervising a team in a regulated QC environment is required.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum 5 years of laboratory experience Wet chemistry
  • Proficiency with most wet chemistry techniques and gravimetric assays
  • Must be able to independently evaluate results from routine analysis and identify problems and potential problems as they occur
  • Possess a continuous process improvement mindset with the ability to effectively influence change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, LIMS (Lab Information Management System)
  • Proven problem-solving skills
