Job Description
Job Summary
The Technical Writer III will work with cross-functional teams to produce end-user documentation for scientific instruments (ion chromatography systems and solvent extraction systems). The technical writer will apply his or her writing, editing, graphics, and photography skills to a range of documentation, including installation instructions, operator’s manuals, annual preventive maintenance procedures, and online Help. Production and release of deliverables will be in compliance with ISO 9001 procedures. Successful writers in our group are team players with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Research, develop, and write user documentation from information provided by subject-matter experts, product managers, and other project team members.
  • Write clearly and concisely to meet the needs of the target audience.
  • Identify and provide graphics and photos that improve understanding of the product.
  • Manage review cycles to ensure timely feedback by stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and new product development meetings as necessary.
  • When possible, install and use the product being documented.
  • Show proficiency in use of the required Technical Writing and project software applications.
  • Review and make recommendations to project teams about error messages, tool tips, dialog boxes, and usability.
  • Work with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Release documentation according to our site processes.
  • Follow all processes, style guides, templates, and corporate branding guidelines.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to Technical Writing processes and deliverables.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., physical science, English, or technical communication) preferred; professional experience will be considered in lieu of this
  • 6 years of experience researching and writing technical documentation for scientific instruments or other complex products
  • Ability to organize information logically
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately
  • Keen attention to detail and high regard for quality
  • Solid knowledge of at least some of the following: FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong project management, relationship management, and critical thinking skills
