Position Summary: This position is within the Fisher BioServices business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Pharmacy Technician 2 in the CRPMC contract is responsible for preparing orders for shipment to clinical sites for government clients. These materials are stored at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to below freezing with potentially hazardous properties. This position uses database applications and standard precautionary procedures to work independently, be self-directed, communicate effectively, and use good judgment when making decisions. Internal or external client interaction occurs under the guidance of experienced professional or technical staff. As a Technician 2, this position requires applying acquired skills with some complexity and working knowledge of technical, operative or administrative methods and practices found within the Pharmacy industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to effectively perform Pharmacy Technician 1 duties:
  • Pack orders for shipment to clinical sites (ambient, wet ice, dry ice and frozen).
  • Affix all required shipping and auxiliary labels.
  • Operate the FedEx Ò PowerShipÔ and the UPS onlineÒ Office computers to input addresses, create shipping labels, and print shipping reports.
  • Restock warehouse shelves from back-up supplies.
  • Check CPIMS inventory levels against physical inventory.
  • Restock shipping supplies.
  • Perform weekly generator tests and check fuel level.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of the repository (both inside and out).
  • Works closely with managers to support customer inquiries, discrepancies, inventory maintenance and database updates.
  • Participates in process improvement activities.
  • Assures compliance to cGMP parts 210 and 211 and company quality systems.
  • Follows standard operating procedures (SOPs), facility safety guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements which may include compliance with cGMP CFR parts 210 and 211 where applicable.

  • May be required to travel to other facilities to meet business needs
Pharmacy Technician 2 must apply skills to perform the following duties:
  • Manage registration of sites (prepare and send Drug Supply Statements and enter site in CPIMS Database).
  • Manage drug recalls/repass (extract distribution information from CPIMS, prepare, and send letters to sites, track progress, maintain open and completed files, and prepare status reports for CRPMC staff).
  • Issue expiration date extensions, as directed by technical staff.
  • Communicate with health care professionals at clinical sites.
  • Process Investigational Agent Requests from sites using CPIMS database.
  • Generate and print reports from CPIMS database.
  • Create and revise applicable SOPs with new information.
  • Use FedExÒ PowerShipÔ to ship and track packages sent to clinical sites.
  • Use UPS OnlineÒ Office to ship and track packages sent to clinical sites and returned to manufacturers.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty.
  • Requires excellent communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Requires expert ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel.
  • Requires knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word and possibly Microsoft Access.
  • Requires knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality assurance/control.

Education/ Experience:
  • Requires High School Diploma; Life Science Degree preferred.
  • Requires 1+ years work experience in a pharmaceutical or related field.

Supervisory Responsibility:
None; assists in training of peers.

Work Schedule:
8:00AM to 4:30PM core hours with additional hours as required.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
  • Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-196°C).
  • Must be able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
