The Business Development Manager, will support the evaluation and execution of business development and licensing opportunities for the Thermo Fisher ImmunoDiagnostics Division. The candidate will be accountable for assessing and executing on organic and inorganic growth opportunities in alignment with the ImmunoDiagnostics strategic plan.

Main Tasks

  • Develops the Business Development roadmap for ImmunoDiagnostics through active screening and evaluation of acquisition (M&A) and licensing opportunities
  • Establishes target screening criteria based on the ImmunoDiagnostics business strategy
  • Manages external relationships with potential target and partner companies
  • Executes on Business Development opportunities in collaboration with the ImmunoDiagnostics Leadership Team, Senior Manager of Business Development and Strategy, Commercial Regions and Corporate functions
  • Drives key strategic initiatives including evaluation of regional market opportunities to drive business growth
  • Actively participates in the yearly Strategy process for ImmunoDiagnostics
  • Monitors acquisition and licensing activity in the IVD market and reports out on trends to the ImmunoDiagnostics organization
  • Creates financial models for the evaluation of business opportunities
  • Proposes and negotiates licensing models for new technologies to be used for the business
  • Negotiates term sheets and contracts for royalties, licenses and cooperations
  • Assesses patents for new product developments


  • Masters degree in Business, Finance
  • 3-5 years of experience in Business Development and licensing in med-tech or life sciences in a fast moving, complex environment are desirable
  • Solid understanding of Healthcare & Diagnostics industry strongly preferred
  • Available to travel up to 25% of working days based on need
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying, evaluating and executing on potential licensing and M&A opportunities
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strategic mindset and team player
  • Experience working with legal contracts, both review and creation
  • Experience working with various levels of the organization including executive leadership, peers and junior team members
  • Experience managing teams and working in a matrix organization
  • Excellent understanding of financial data and analyses
  • Experience developing financial evaluation models and developing strategies
  • Strong team orientation and communication skills in English language (both written and verbal)
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Able to work comfortably with incomplete information and dealing with ambiguity
  • Good business understanding and business acumen
  • Experience managing complex projects
  • Knowledge from quality and compliance work is essential
  • Preference to be based near to Thermo Fisher Scientific sites in Freiburg, Germany or Uppsala, Sweden
