Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train, monitor, advise, & guide packing & shipping employees on proper work methods and procedures.
  • Prioritize customer order packing/shipping assignments, expedite rush orders & advise management (Distribution Supervisor) of packer/shipper efficiency
  • Learn the use of all packing/shipping computer software systems (Savant, Megatrak, UPS, Fed-Ex, and other freight companies via internet access)
  • Contact carriers to schedule pick-ups on a daily basis
  • Properly complete Bill of Ladings, stack, wrap, weigh, and label pallets
  • Support Distribution Supervisor daily in ensuring all shipments receive proper prioritization.
  • Ensure that all pick-ups each day are completed.
  • Complete information needed in Savant WMS and Syspro ERP systems
  • Conduct packing/shipping training when necessary
  • Work closely with the Order Pool/Inventory and Sourcing departments to maintain priority
  • Must maintain Tier I department board and drive daily Tier I department meetings.
  • Must learn to safely and effectively operate the electric pallet jack and the sit-down forklift.
  • Ensure packing / shipping work area is kept clean and organized
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Decision Making Authority
  • Determine if overtime and/or schedule changes are necessary for department employees and recommend actions to Distribution Supv.
  • Determine outbound scheduling of trucks /containers to ensure proper priority and flow.

Specific Scope Data
  • Position to support and drive to achieve all Key Business Metrics/Goals for the business which include but are not limited to: Safety, Quality, Customer Delivery, Customer Allegiance Score, and PPI & Productivity Savings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in a shipping environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of general business computer software and aptitude to learn new software applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must have strong communication, mathematical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to comprehend directions, safety rules, Bill of Ladings, etc

EDUCATION/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong mathematical, grammar, organizational, and computer skills. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, comprehend directions, safety rules, packing slips, and shipping schedules. High School Diploma required. Minimal typing abilities required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly (more than 2/3 of the time) required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently (between 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly (more than 2/3 of the time) lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently (between 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally (less than 1/3 of the time) lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
