Job Description

We are looking for a XRF Senior Scientist to work as an integral part of a cross-functional R&D team focused on the development of next generation x-ray fluoresence analyzers for online analysis in the minerals industry.

This role involves conducting research to investigate new design concept for XRF analysers and subsytems, optimize those designs, and translate it into functional prototypes and production articles.

  • Serve as the technical lead for the XRF product line.
  • Lead/manage R&D Projects for New Product Development (NPD) and/or product enhancement.
  • Conduct the physics design of XRF analytical systems.
  • Develop new techniques for instrument operation & control, spectral analysis, and calibration.
  • Conduct and/or supervise testing of new products or enhancements (in factory or on customer sites) for research and design validation.
  • Work closely with marketing and other product stakeholders to develop and document system level specifications and requirements.
  • Document new products and/or enhancements for future reference. Provide support to Quality Control, Customer Service Engineers and Production teams during manufacture, installation and on-going service phases.
  • Create training materials and deliver training to Customer Service Engineers and other internal staff as necessary.
  • Perform feasibility studies on sample suites received from projects and prepare feasibility study reports.
  • Work to the company’s ISO 9001:2000 “Quality Management System” processes and procedures and specific work instructions as required for the position.

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics or related discipline. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in x-ray instrument design.
  • Operational and design experience with x-ray tubes and silicon drift detectors (SDD).
  • Detailed knowledge and experience developing fundamental parameters–based calibration for XRF instruments.
  • Strong understanding of electronics and instrumentation for x-ray signal processing Ability to design and conduct experiments.
  • Ability to critically assess results from an experiment campaign.
Desired Experience
  • Matlab programming knowledge or knowledge of another structured programming language.
  • X-ray transport & optics modelling.
  • Proven project and/or team leadership.
  • Phase gate product development framework.
  • Industrial instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of the minerals mining, beneficiation, or analysis.
