Job Description

Job Title: Quality Control Specialist
Reports To: Quality Control Lead – Packaging or Despatch or Inventory
Group/Division: BioPharma Services
Career Band: 3
Job Track: Associate

Position Summary:

Under direction of the Quality Control Lead(s), accurately perform QC checks in Packaging, Despatch and/or Receiving, providing the required levels of support and service to operational functions, to ensure product compliance to item specifications and / or order requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • QC Receiving – to include, but not limited to;
    • Review and approval of material specifications
    • Incoming Material inspections and release of incoming materials
    • Sampling and Dispensing of materials as required
    • Issue investigation and resolution

  • QC Packaging – to include, but not limited to;
    • Line Clearances
    • Start Up, Shift and End Checks during production
    • Execution of Quality Audits
    • Issue investigation and resolution

  • QC Despatch – to include, but not limited to;
    • First Inspections of materials picked for shipment where applicable
    • Final Inspection of all orders prior to Despatch
    • Shipment of all orders from the GPMS system
    • Issue investigation and resolution

  • Maintain compliance with GMP, HSE and ongoing Quality programmes via the performance of documented QC checks within operational areas / activities.
  • Proactively partake in continuous improvement initiatives, and support their implementation where appropriate, working with individuals from across the business as necessary.
  • Support the preparation of new and /or review and enhance existing Standard Operating Procedures related to the processes for Quality Control, and functions supported by QC.
  • Generate and update documentation required by QC / Operations to ensure processes and products are fit for purpose.
  • Collection of metrics to demonstrate the performance of the processes followed by QC in the respective areas as instructed by the Quality Control Lead(s).
  • Identify, escalate and support investigations for any identified internal and/or external non-conformances, identified during QC processes, or notified to QC by another function.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of corrective / preventative actions at the discretion of the Quality Control Lead(s) and / or Senior Quality Control Specialist(s) as appropriate.
  • Deputise in the absence of the Senior Quality Control Specialist(s) as appropriate.
  • Perform adhoc duties, as requested by the QC Manager, Quality Control Lead(s) and / or Senior Quality Control Specialist(s), to support the activities of the Quality department, as required.
  • On Call Rota

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Preferably educated to GCSE level or equivalent, in relevant subjects
  • Preferably has related experience in pharmaceutical GMP
  • Preferably has experience of working in Clinical Trials quality/packaging/distribution
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of working within a team ethos
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of working without direct supervision / under own initiative within the remit of the role.
  • Responsibility / accountability for quality of own work.
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Competent in use of electronic / computerised systems.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem solving and decision making skills.
