Job Description

Position Objective

This position is for a Senior Associate Tax Analyst, reporting to the VAT/Tax Manager. The Analyst will support the Global VAT compliance and planning as well as supporting the Global Corporate Tax function, contributing to the support of Global Finance systems and processes, critical for the needs of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The role requires strong analytical and reconciliation skills, dependability, organization skills with accurate attention to detail. The Analyst will be working with multiple teams, in the UK, EMEA, APAC and the US.

Essential Functions

Contributes to the success of the company by providing timely and accurate work products that meet and/or exceed expectations.

Supports the day to day VAT activities across the EMEA region, applying VAT knowledge to situations and addresses complex VAT issues with the VAT Manager.

Supports Corporate Tax activities working with the Tax Manager.

Manages own time on multiple VAT/Tax assignments, working effectively with others within the team and communicating progress and results.

Interacts effectively with other members of the Tax Department in Europe and the United States.

Key responsibilities include:
Preparation of VAT Returns, Intrastat Reporting and EC Sales Lists within EMEA.

Support compliance with EMEA VAT requirements, implementing internal control checks and reconciliations during the reporting/filing process to mitigate risk.

Provides support during external and internal audits.

Preparation of UK Corporation Tax Returns

Calculation of corporate tax provisions

Supporting international corporate tax compliance
Performs data analytics for our Tax business partners in multiple systems

Identifies cross functional dependencies/touch points between financial systems and other systems

Assists in providing reports and reconciliations of data to Management

Provides application support to user community

May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.

Educated to bachelor’s degree in accountancy level, or similar. Further education in a related field would be preferred, but not essential.

Must be proficient with MS Excel.
Knowledge of SQL, Hyperion, Cognos data warehouse, E1 (Oracle ERP) and/or SAP is preferred.
Experience in VAT compliance, working for multinational companies, either gained within the profession or with proven track record in similar role in industry.
Previous corporate tax experience desirable.
