Job Description
Title: Sr Financial Analyst, Cost Accounting
Reports to: Controller, Anatomical Pathology
Location: Kalamazoo, MI

Position Summary

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate standard product costs, inventory reporting, and financial analysis supporting the AP US manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities include monthly cost accounting activities, annual standard cost updates, utilizing cost information to assist the organization in identifying savings opportunities utilizing & levering the PPI Business System. In addition, supporting enhanced decision-making, working with the Commercial Finance Team to provide product cost estimates to support growth initiatives, and assisting in monthly, quarterly and annual FP&A activities. This position will also have primary responsibility for accounting and financial analysis related to our instrumentation service business.

Essential Functions

Cost Analysis
  • Ensure accurate gross margin reporting by maintaining accurate standard costs for the plant
  • Provide analysis of Purchase Price Variance and coordinate with Purchasing to reduce variance.
  • Work closely with the Consumables Manufacturing Team to identify and resolve root cause of manufacturing and factory spending variances
  • Maintain accurate excess and obsolete inventory reserves, and coordinate with operation team to reduce reserves.
  • Perform intermediate-level accounting work utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile inventory accounts.
  • Perform various close responsibilities related to COGS variances .
  • Leading the achievement of 97% Inventory Accuracy with all sites and Performing and/or coordinating periodic inventory audits inventory and cycle count results
  • Recommend adjustments to the general ledger in connection with account reconciliation and variance reviews
  • Help support reporting of Sourcing, PPI and Restructuring savings initiatives
  • Actively participate in formal PPI team projects
  • Prepare all monthly accounting activity related to fixed assets (including reagent rentals) and related Property Tax documentation
  • Prepare annual fixed asset impairment analysis
Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Play a key role in the preparation of annual operating plan
  • Actively support preparation of monthly and quarter business review presentations.
  • Complete special analysis / projects to help identify cost reduction and operating improvements initiatives.
  • Prepare capital spending forecasts & actual tracking.
  • Prepare monthly service scorecard and other metrics
  • BS in accounting or finance required
  • 4+ years cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite particularly Excel, Access and Powerpoint with special focus on enhanced Excel skills.
  • Exposure to Hyperion Financial Management software
  • Ability to prioritize task and meet strict reporting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain internal / exiternal relationships.
